SCoP was originally written for projects in cellular electrophysiology in the Department of Physiology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. Between 1984 and early 1991, SCoP was developed and greatly extended by the faculty and staff of the National Biomedical Simulation Resource (NBSR) at Duke University Medical Center.
The NBSR was supported from 1983 through 1990 by a grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Research Resources. From its home in the Department of Physiology (now Cell Biology) at Duke University Medical Center, the NBSR provided access to computing facilities, simulation software, consulting, and training to a large number of biomedical scientists across the United States and in other countries of the world.
The SCoP software package is now supported by Simulation Resources, Incorporated, a private corporation. From 1991 through June, 1998, SRI was located in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and was associated with Andrews University. In July, 1998, SRI moved to its present location in Redlands, California, and the development of SCoP is now being carried out at Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, California) in the School of Medicine, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.
Many of the features of SCoP have been added in response to requests from users and the personnel at Simulation Resources, Inc., greatly appreciate feedback to continue the development of the program.
